Border Veterinary Clinic, located in Provost, Alberta, Canada is a mixed animal practice owned and operated by Dr. Ian Goodbrand. Since 1992, the business has strived to meet the needs of all its clientele in East Central Alberta and across the border in Saskatchewan. The centre has grown in size since its inception; now supporting 7 veterinarians and a full complement of staff. Border Veterinary Clinic prides itself on customer service and patient care. It is the goal of the staff to continue to learn and advance in the profession in order to offer the best possible therapies available today. Welcome to our practice. Ian Goodbrand, DVM

After graduating in 1991, Ian moved to Pierceland, SK where he started a large animal practice. In 1992, he purchased Border Veterinary Clinic from Dr. Norman Habermehl and has been practicing here ever since.
His current role in the practice is owner and administrator of a large veterinary and medical support staff. His professional focus is beef feedlot consultation and herd health services. He is passionate about veterinary practice management and developing his clinic into a centre of excellence for beef production medicine.


Meet the Associates
Darren Waltz, DVM
University of Saskatchewan, Western College of Veterinary Medicine 1991
After graduating from university, Darren returned to his hometown of Peace River, Alberta to practice veterinary medicine. In 1996 he joined the staff at Border Veterinary Clinic as an associate veterinarian. His practice focus is large animal medicine and surgery with an emphasis on cow-calf production.


Marc Robitaille, DVM
University of Saskatchewan, Western College of Veterinary Medicine 1991
Marc began practice in rural Manitoba with his own clinic which serviced the dairy, beef, PMU, swine and small animal sectors. In 2005, he moved to Border Veterinary Clinic and continued mixed practice with a focus on equine medicine and cow-calf production. Marc also spends considerable time on beef nutrition; making customized mineral recommendations.

Kristine Gartner, DVM

Kristine began her career as a veterinarian at Border Vet Clinic the summer after her graduation from Saskatoon. Four years later she left to try her hand at practices in Lethbridge and Lloydminster before returning to Provost and establishing herself permanently. Kris focuses on small animal medicine and surgery.

Claudette relocated to Unity, Saskatchewan to work in mixed practice after graduating from AVC in 1994. After eight years in practice she joined Dr. Goodbrand in Provost. She practices primarily small animal medicine and surgery but still loves calving season. Her current interests are small animal dentals, soft tissue surgery and internal fracture repairs involving pinning and plating.

Marie-Lucie Gendron,

Upon completing her internship in June 2003, Marie-Lucie began work for Vétérinaires Sans Frontières-France in central Vietnam as a Project Coordinator for ACDENA. The project between the French and Vietnamese dairy and swine industries was eventually cancelled due to cooperative difficulties so ML moved back to Canada and took an associate position at Border Veterinary Clinic in Provost, Alberta.


Christine Reinhart, DVM

Christine grew up on a mixed cattle and grain farm outside of Lashburn, SK. After completing her degrees in Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine she is excited to join the Border Vet team as a mixed animal veterinarian.

As the senior RVT and Business Office Manager, Joanne's roles encompass accounting, payroll, inventory and purchasing, and daily hospital operations.

Gaylene Paulgaard, RVT

Gaylene is a senior RVT who has been with Border Vet Clinic since her graduation from NAIT. She is responsible for customer service including bookings and invoicing.

Danika joined the BVC staff in 2018 as a Receptionist. She is responsible for customer service, scheduling, client purchase orders and inventory.

Becky Gregory, RVT

Becky is a small animal RVT with a background in wildlife rehabilitation. She assists with medicine and surgery and particularly enjoys senior pet care and grooming.

Shauntelle is a small animal RVT. Along with her medical and surgical casework she is particularly involved in dietary recommendations and is certified in behavioural counselling.

Justine Attwell, RVT

Justine is a small animal RVT. She joined our BVC team with a background in emergency and critical care. She enjoys assisting in surgical procedures and is fear free certified.

Tera-Lynn Oborowsky, AHT

Tera began employment at BVC as a large animal technician. She has a talent for customer service and is mostly found answering the phone and doing bookings.

Victoria is one of our large animal technologists. She has an interest in animal behaviour and enjoys working with cattle and horses.

Rachel started as one of our small animal technologists in the spring of 2021 and has since moved to working in large animal. Rachel has previous knowledge of working in a feedlot.
